GelSana Collaborators Receive Prestigious American Burn Association Research Award for CleraFlex Research

GelSana Therapeutics is proud to congratulate Babita Parajuli, B.S., and Amy Wang, D.O., on receiving the 2026 Robert B. Lindberg Basic Scientist Paper Award from the American Burn Association (ABA) for their research evaluating GelSana’s CleraFlex™ technology in a clinically relevant burn wound infection model.

The Robert B. Lindberg Basic Scientist Paper Award is one of the ABA’s most prestigious scientific honors, recognizing outstanding research that advances the understanding and treatment of burn injuries.

The research recognized by the ABA evaluated CleraFlex in infected burn wounds using a porcine model designed to simulate prolonged field care conditions. The study demonstrated that CleraFlex significantly reduced Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacterial burden while also decreasing markers of inflammation.

Importantly, these benefits were achieved without the use of traditional antimicrobial drugs, highlighting the potential of CleraFlex’s zwitterionic technology to help reduce bacterial attachment and biofilm formation while maintaining a moist wound environment that supports healing. These results are particularly significant for military and austere care settings, where delayed evacuation and limited access to surgical intervention can increase the risk of wound infection.

The research recognized by the ABA was conducted by a team led by Dr. David M. Burmeister at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and the Armed Forces Radiobiology Research Institute, in collaboration with investigators from the Battlefield Shock and Organ Support Program and the U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research. The work was supported through a U.S. Air Force Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) award focused on advancing innovative wound care solutions for military and civilian applications.

GelSana is honored to collaborate with leading clinicians and scientists working to improve outcomes for patients with burn injuries and chronic wounds. We congratulate Babita Parajuli and Dr. Amy Wang on this well-deserved achievement and look forward to advancing the development of next-generation wound healing technologies through continued collaboration.
